Songs, Facts, and Lists we need to learn:




    
This figure has five faces. The face on the bottom (also called a base) is a square, and the sides are triangles that meet at a specific vertex. This is called a pyramid. Notice that the base of the pyramid is a square. This is called a square pyramid. The base names the figure. An edge is the place where two faces meet. Edges are straight; they cannot be curved. This figure has 8 edges. The place where two or more edges meet is called a vertex. A vertex is like a corner. A pyramid has 5 vertices.
           


Negatives


A negative word says “no” or “not.” Often negatives are in the form of contractions.
*Do not enter that room. *Don’t even go near the door.

In most sentences it is not correct to use two negatives.

INCORRECT: We can’t see nothing. We haven’t got no solution.
CORRECT: We can’t see anything. We haven’t got a solution.

Have your child identify these sentences as “correct” or “incorrect.”
My teacher doesn’t like to eat radishes. I can’t find no cat under the bed.
The clerk is not saying nothing to us. Carlos doesn’t want a snack.

quadrilateral- has 4 sides, 4 angles, and 4 vertices
pentagon- has 5 sides, 5 angles, and 5 vertices
hexagon-  has 6 sides, 6 angles, and 6 vertices
octagon-  has 8 sides, 8 angles, and 8 vertices
decagon- has 10 sides, 10 angles, and 10 vertices

 An atlas is a book of maps. If you want to find a specific place, street, road, city, or state. It can also show landforms.
 An encyclopedia is used when someone wants to find information about a person, place, or thing.   
You will find the meaning of words in a dictionary. You will also find the pronunciation of a word, the part of speech of a word, and how to make the plural form of a word in a dictionary.
In a thesaurus, you will find synonyms and antonyms for words.
An almanac is a book of facts. It lists Presidents, sport stats, firsts and world records; it tracks weather conditions;it tracks populations of locations; it shows astronomical info such as moon phases, eclipses, sunrise, sunset; it has calendars; it is published annually

Cover-shows the title, author, and illustrator
Title page shows the title, author, publisher, illustrator
Table of contents is found in the front of the book. It tells the names of chapters within book and page number where each chapter begins
Glossary is found in the back and gives meanings of words used in the book
Index is found in the back and gives alphabetical list of topics in the book and page/s where topic may be found
